Department of Economics
Introduction
Department of Economics is an old Department of Institute of Southern Punjab (ISP) and it has been functioning since 2010. It is offering different programs: BS Economics 4 years, BS Economics 2 years, BS Economics 2.5 years and M.Phil. Economics 2 years. The Department has not only maintained high quality standard of teaching and learning but also developed rigorous research activities. So far more than 200 students have been completed their M.Phil. with research work on different national and international economic issues and serving in different public and private organizations at higher positions. More than 100 research papers of the faculty and students of this Department have been published in impact factor and HEC recognized journals. The students from all over the country and particularly from Southern Punjab prefer to study at the Department of Economics due to its friendly-learning environment, market-oriented performs and advanced physical and technological structure.
The faculty of the Department is very experienced, friendly and forward looking. It focuses on knowledge sharing and knowledge transferring from academia to the learners. It builds students’ capacity to cope with complex economic challenge and contribute in economic development of the country. The Department has a state-of-the-art Library equipped with latest text books on Economics and other related discipline. It also has a formal research Center where all necessary facilities are available to carry out research. The core objective of this Department is to produce efficient and knowledgeable economists having analytical capability so that they may be able to solve complex economic issues after completing their education.
Accreditation
All programs of the Department of Economics are approved by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and Punjab Higher Education Commission.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Economics is “to produce economists who meet national and international economic challenges and develop problem diagnosing and problem-solving skill through rigorous knowledge transferring and knowledge sharing. The focus of all programs is to value creation. This vision is aligned to the vision of ISP, which emphasizes integration of teaching, outcome learning, advancement of knowledge and best competitive environment and state of the art infrastructure.”
Mission
The mission of the Department of Economics is “to develop human resources and transform them into human capital through rigorous teaching, training and research so that the students may significantly contribute in national development. This mission is accomplished through providing state of the art infrastructure, quality education and rigorous training so that the students, after completing their education, must not only be an innovative, charismatic, knowledgeable but also a perfect leaders and good citizens. This mission is developed is aligned with ISP’s mission, which stresses upon the need of inculcating professional knowledge, skill and ethical values among the students.
Department Information
This Department is a blessing for the students of Southern Punjab as it has so far produced hundreds of economists and researchers since its inception in 2010. This Department provides education from BS level to M.Phil. level, and the new students can enjoy a conducive and friendly learning environment. Our students have not only served in different renowned educational institutions, commercial banks, the State Bank of Pakistan, and business organizations at managerial positions. They are doing their Ph.D.’s in Pakistan as well as in foreign universities on a merit scholarship. I invite new students to join the Best University in Multan at all levels with full confidence and optimism about their success through the rigorous learning process.
